Sighting

sitting around outside the cabin at night around 8-9p.m.talking, waiting for time to past to hit the sack and sleep,--i was there at the sheepcamp with a friend and his family just having a get together to which i was invited to, anyway we were sitiing around waiting for the fire to die out outside, people starting leaving back down the mountain to their homes, but a few of us decided to stay behind and spend the night with the sheepherder taking care of the camp and sheep--

my friend E. S., his girlfriend(name forgotten) her sister, her cousins whose names i don't remember and the sheepherder(name unknown)some old guy from the community down below the mountain(sheepsprings, nm)

as we were getting ready tp put out the fire, we were getting up to put things away in the trucks, note; the sheep corral was located behind the cabin at an angle from the side, cabin was facing east with entrance, so the sheep corral was southwest of the cabin about fourty - sixty yards away--anyway, we were getting ready for bed, as i walked off to take a piss, the sheep in the corrak started to move and make noise with their belching(i think is the right term) and for some strange reason the dogs were nowhere to be seen, and all of a sudden my friend E.S. came behind me and said look over there, as i turned my face toward the sheep corral still peeing at the same time, i notice a shadow figure from behind the pine tree near the sheep corral, i said "is it moving?--right there, look, look!! with almost an anger in my voice and as that happened i hurried and put my stuff, and we walk fast back to the entrance area of the cabin and grab my friends pistol (9mm) and as we made our way a few feet from the doorway we saw the shadow hop over the corral like a person would over a three foot fence, you know, like you would when your grab the fence with one hand and just hop on over to the other side--anyway then the herd of sheep scatter around, and thats when we alarmed everyone what was going on, something is in the sheep corral, we said, everyone came out to take a look, we just stood there scared out of our minds, i know i was, as this happened i told my friend to load a round off in the air, and he did(boom)--nothing happened and as this happened, the thing jumped out stood there with a sheep in one hand curled under the arm like how you would carry a little kid and another sheep over the left shoulder, i was like holy sh!t, shoot it!--(i remember this vividly)- and as it turn in one motion threw the sheep toward us at about 30 feet, which landed about 30 yards maybe fourty yards away from us and ran off in the opposite direction with the other sheep over it's left shoulder like how you would run with a flour sack over your left shoulder.---that night there a moon out, not full, but bright enough to see what just happened, you know like when you go out at night with the moon out, you can make out things from a distance, but can't see a face but see enough of someone or something doing something, thats how it was, cuz in the area that this happened, the treeline was behind the sheep corral from about 10-20 feet away when the trees got heavy and was pitch black, we talked about it the next day, of course i got very little sleep that night, we walked around the sheep corral looking for tracks but the ground was too heavily laden with pine needles, pine cones and brush to find any tracks- just busted up twigs thats all, but we did drag off the dead sheep too a distant area to decay--we even checked the sheep corral for tracks hoping that the sheep didn't walk over it, but it was all gone too

the subject was well over 7 feet tall but no taller than 8 feet, judging from the hop it made over the sheep corral which was about five and a half feet high, couldn't make out the color of the subject just a dark figure that moved upright on 2 feet---from my point of view, it didn't have a slouch, jumped right over the fence with ease --moved very swiftly, and seemed to be on the lookout as if it had done this before, cuz of how we (E., and i) saw this thing move from the time i was using the restroom to the time it jumped into the sheep corral--

just broken twigs--tried to look for tracks in the sheep corral, but it was already gone from the sheep walking over it in the morning--and don't ask why i or we didn't look right away, i say hell naw--walking to the sheep corral 40-60 yards away in the dark, after witnessing what had just happened--no way

no howls or grunts--just luck of seeing it move at night in the moon light and noise from the sheep, thats about it

broken twigs, but thats about it- nothing out of the ordinary

other stories are similar in the area, mainly among sheepherders who tell the owners of what goes on---but the dates are far between events

This final report is being submitted by Thomas Steenburg for Dave Jaggers, who has left S.R.I. Though this final report is from Steenburg's opinons and observations, the overall follow-up work on this report was done by Dave Jaggers.

In this case, Dave felt that the main witness, G.S., was being truthful and honest with his reported sighting of a sasquatch, June 2001. A second witness, E.S., was contacted by the first witness, with the intent of being asked to tell of his observations. Yet somehow the topic did not come up when E.S. was contacted by G.S. G.S. than promised to contact him again, and since that time Dave has been frustrated time and time again by the lack of co-operation from this case's second witness. Dave has since left S.R.I.

One has to consider that this report's first and main witness, G.S. has been forthcoming and has not hesitated in answering Dave's questions. G.S. states that no tracks were seen and the only sounds were those of panicked sheep. There is a history of reports in and around where this report occurred, and more than one case of predatory behaviour. I am disturbed that the details as to the creature's description have not been filled in. The witness does give some height estimates. But really the only reason a sasquatch is being considered here is the fact G.S. went out of his way to find some organisation in order to report what he saw. It was an intense enough encounter that a shot was fired in the air and the subject seemed to take that as a challange rather than leaving immediately. This encounter proved fatal to one, possibly two sheep. A shot was fired in the air, yet at no time did anyone consider informing the police or anyone else at the time it occurred.

Despite the red flags, I personally get the feeling of truth about this case. And I have to mention the good work done by Dave Jaggers prior to his departure. I recommend that this report be listed as a sasquatch sighting

He had several stories from the surrounding areas that he had heard over the years, including one sighting by a police officer near Shiprock N.M. who was investigating a reported mutliation of a ranchers dog.
