Report Type:
Tracks
Witness Activities:
We had just had breakfast and packed up camp on our way out of Cape Scott Prov.Park. We had beeen there for 5 days camping and exploring the area on foot.We had hiked to the lighthouse the previous day.
Other Witnesses:
My boyfriend at the time. It was just the two of us on a wilderness trek.
Incident Description:
I pretty much covered that in the (describe the area question.
Description of Tracks:
We saw one footprint, It was not a fake. It had the same weight distribution that a human foot print would have into the mud but deeper, It was about 15 to 18 inches in length. Big toes. Wide with a low arch.
Description of Sounds:
It was very quiet.
Other Evidence:
I probably did notice it because the edges of the trail are in general undisturbed and where the print was the brush looked like it had been broken and pulled back.
Other Details:
It again is the remote area that we saw this. Why would any one hoax? Also it being so remote what better place to be if your a sasquatch? Fresh water, salt water ,lots of easy food and lots of places to hide and #1 no people.

Investigation Report:
On October 4th, 1989, Ms Jennifer Hughes in company with her boyfriend, Mr. Mike Silver, were hiking out from the beaches of Cape Scott Provincal Park after enjoying several days of wonderful weather in what has to be one of the most beautiful trails on Vancouver Island. They had finished packing up and were hiking out along the same trail they came in on. This trail was, and I believe still is, the only way in or out to the Park's beaches and lighthouse.
While walking out the couple came upon a wet mud hole on the trail that contained a single, large barefoot footprint which according to Mike was not there when they had hiked in. The print astounded both witnesses and they did study it and the surrounding area for approximately 30 minutes. The print was clear enough that all 5 toes where clearly visible. But no claw marks were seen, and the shape was more human-like than bear-like. No measurements were taken at the time but Jennifer thinks that the print was about 14 inches long and 6 1/2 inches wide. Mike remembers it as about 15 inches long. No photographs were taken. They did have a camera with them at the time but had used up all the film over the previous few days of the trip.
Now both witnesses are avid outdoors people, who have backpacked many a Vancouver Island trail, and are familar with bear tracks and the footprints of much wild life. In this case they feel they had come across something different. Both witnesses told me that they think this track was that of a Sasquatch and not that of a bear. Nor do they feel that they were the victims of some sort of prank. Mike did mention that the only other hikers they saw on the beaches during this trip were two young guys. It is not known if these two men left the area before our witnesses. If they did, I feel that a prank may be possible, though unlikely.
Jennifer just felt that there should be some record of this find and that thought prompted her to report this to S.R.I. Now I would normally recommend a report like this one as inconclusive, due to the fact the footprint was not photographed. But taking into account the outdoor lifestyle of both witnesses, as well as the fact that after 19 years both feel that this was indeed the footprint of a Sasquatch and not some other common animal, and they both are 90 percent sure that the two other men were not out there to pull pranks on people, I recommend this report be listed as a footprint find.
