A second BFRO report # 391 is also of nothing more than a tree break. In this case, there are no comments by the investigator indicating any kind of follow-up was done at all. I was able to trace within a closer proximity the area described in the tree break report thanks to the help of a fellow SRI associate. The area in question is very well developed and was reported to the BFRO as being in an area of a business park. A satellite view of the area is available on Terraserver from 1990. A quick look at a Mapquest view of the same area shows us massive development that would make it nigh impossible for a sasquatch to be in the area at the time of the report. In two of the three links above, there is no picture provided, and nothing other than a guess as to the actual scale or true size of the break in two of the cases. In the third, there is even less to go on. These are not unusual occurrences for alleged tree break claims. A simple Google search of “tree breaks” and “bigfoot” as the parameters will bring up dozens of similar accounts. In none of them are scale references provided nor any other sources looked into as a possible cause. In the second series, we are going to examine the photos provided by various websites of what they claim to be tree breaks or sign of sasquatch activity. The first set comes from the Bigfoot Ranger Team.2
Note that in Fig.1 and the close-up in Fig. 2, with the height not more than a foot off the ground, a man or any number of animals, such as a bear or deer, can easily accomplish the break. In Fig. 3, the comparison of the height and diameter is more readily apparent. Using the person in the photo, I estimate the height of the break at around the four-foot level. Assuming the width of his hand as an average man’s hand span of 4-5 inches across, this would make the diameter of the break approximately 2-3 inches. A tree break this size is easily accomplished by a person as noted previously in the statement from Titmus to Krantz. |
