You can do something as simple as driving a few of the local back roads at night, which is more interesting than it sounds. Try it sometime! Another option during the daytime is to find a place where you can park your car to observe a wide area. Come back to the area at night and set up shop. If you don’t have any call blasting supplies, clack some rocks together a few times in some sort of rhythmic pattern. If you have a good solid piece of wood around, find a big tree and whack it with your wood stick a few times. Wait silently for a few minutes before you try again with your rocks or wood. My son and I once got what we believed was reply to our rock clacking. I will talk about that in detail later. All being said, you’re the guy that calls the shots and sometimes you will have to retreat due to your children’s fear, and sometimes you will need to push them forward. I think a good rule of thumb is this, if you are totally relaxed and secure in an area, your kids will notice it and more than likely they will be all right with the arrangement. If you are feeling a little unsure of your surroundings, your children will quickly notice your fear regardless of how much you try to mask it.
