Of the 134 reports I looked at, water was mentioned in 63, or 47%, of the reports.

Report 707 and 7662 name the Molalla River
Report 4482 Applegate River
Report 3075 Smith river
Reports 1209, 11016, 667,10265, 2755, 7988, 9283, 868, 3298, 2712, 13949, 15481, 1774, 8227 and 1651 indicate unnamed rivers close by
Report 652 Tickle Creek
Report 3702 by swimmers in Wolf Creek
Report 12021 Poole Creek
Reports 604, 7263, 7298, 2998, 11576, 1090, 1301, 2956, 12917, 8785, 4951, 1507, 2696, 3248, 4558, 12951, 7137, 495, 3634, 3563, 15355, 4779, 3438, 3400 and 1673 all mention unnamed creeks nearby
Reports 7504, 2147, 2886, 3651, 729, 10533, 208, 13237, 7188, 889 and 7229 mention a stream or streams nearby
Reports 13514, 2856, 607 and 7205 indicate swamps

The next report made no mention of water, however I found the area described in the report from the Washington State Parks Website.

Report 8339 The campground mentioned is located at the junction of the Cowlitz River and Iron Creek

Of the reports where no water was mentioned, I tracked down the sighting locations to the best of my ability from the information found in the reports, and found that the vast majority of them had water less than half a mile from the sighting location. Not just any water, but moving water, either river, creek, brook or stream. Lakes, ponds, canals and swamps only make up a very small percentage of all the sighting locations. However, remember that many of these types of bodies of waters still have moving water going into, out of or through them. If I were searching around these types of bodies of water I would concentrate primarily on the inflow and outflow areas.

Since there are still a significant number of people who only have dial-up access to the Internet, I’m hosting the pictures at another location, rather than posting them in this story so as to not cause problems in downloading and viewing this report.
