Object Recognition in Game Camera Usage

One aspect that may need to be taken into consideration is the brain’s ability to fill in the gap to create pictures from the information provided. This is a part of object recognition with the absence of visual input and one I am putting forward to explain why we have been unsuccessful in obtaining a picture of sasquatch from game cameras.

As an example, I will give the details of a training exercise. I would like to state that I do not feel this is a mystic or paranormal experience, as I will explain after the example.

ImageThe initiate is blindfolded and taken into unfamiliar woods at night. They are left blindfolded and instructed to wait for the vision to come; once it does they are to make their way back to a designated area without removing the blindfold. A single drumbeat is sounded every few minutes from the area. At some point, depending on the individual it can be from several minutes to several hours, they begin to see the forest around them. It has been described as looking at a negative photograph of the forest; others describe it as seeing the life energy of everything. With very few exceptions they find their way back with very little problem. What follows is the narrative of a person “Rose” who took part in this exercise. I am writing this exactly as she told it to me.

“I was nervous about doing the whole thing, even though they told me what to expect and assured me several times nothing would happen bad to me. Saturday evening they [Author’s Note: “they” are a group of new age and survival friends Rose had met at a seminar. I do not know how many were involved or who they are. Because of this fact I am not using any names she mentioned during the course of her narrative] picked me up at home. Shortly after, I was blindfolded, a piece of cloth put over my eyes and a scarf was tied around my head to hold it in place. We drove around for a while. Everyone was friendly. I am not sure how long we drove around, but after some time we stopped and they helped me out of the van and two of them led me through the woods. I stumbled over things and heard leaves and sticks cracking as we walked. When we stopped, they stood on each side of me and both began talking as I was spun in circles first one way, then another. They then had me kneel down and I could hear them walking away. For a few minutes I sat there, then my mind started to go into overtime, bordering on panic. How well did I know these people? What if I became lost? Maybe they just left me as some kind of joke. When was I going to hear the drum? Surely I had been there long enough that they should have beaten it by now. Then I just sat, almost in a resolve, when I heard the drum beat. Like a lifesaver - most of my fears went away. There was nothing. I waited and still nothing. The drum beat several more times and I was about to give up when I noticed a dark spot with a slight glow behind it. It did not occur to me at this point I couldn’t be seeing anything, as I was blindfolded. I started to look around and it seemed as if it was very dimly lit. I was only barely able to make out shapes. That is when it dawned on me that I was blindfolded and suddenly I couldn’t see anything. Shortly after that, I heard a snap, and turning toward the noise I saw a shining figure, it stepped behind a tree. Here is the real cool part; I could make out the tree and pieces of radiant light from the figure. A sudden WOW went through me as I realized I could see everything, in a shining light way. The woods were no longer frightening and I could make out things I would never have noticed before. Like a mouse moving under some grass and branches of trees and brush. From then on, it was a small matter to move in the direction of the drum, the woods standing out as a living organism. I did not stumble, run into any trees or anything like that. The real amazing part is I walked calmly to where I was going, occasionally catching a glimpse of the figure, which turned out to be one of the members, who was kind of babysitting me in case I got into trouble.”

I chose to relate Rose’s experience as she was more vocal in her description than most who experience this. I would also like to state I have personally been present when others have done it and I have taken part myself on occasion. I would note that my experience was different than Rose’s in that my mind was trying to grasp the other stimulus from my surroundings. Thinking that I could consciously control the input from other senses, the result was it took a considerably longer period of time to accomplish the “seeing without eyes” and walking into a tree or two.

What I think happens is that being starved for input, our mind starts processing all the external data it can, then puts this information into a mental picture. This creates what we perceive as a picture in our mind. Minute details that on a conscious level we could not even be aware of, if we knew them, are added to complete the picture. This has a calming effect on the entire body, which reinforces the ability and a person can walk back blindfolded in the dark, seeing things in the mental picture that they would have stepped right over with sight.

This is a repeatable experience, so in essence provable.

So, if sasquatch has a fully integrated system, perceiving its world as those who do the above experiment, then combined with vision it would get a much fuller picture of its surroundings. This would enable sasquatch to readily pick out items that do not fit. The question then becomes to what level of camouflage is it necessary to capture a photograph of this illusive creature. Obviously, just strapping a game camera to a tree is not working.

Varieties of possible solutions do come to mind, however most would require some labor to establish the camera station. Solutions such as placing them in a hollow log, breaking a high branch and attaching within the break, placing them deep in brush etc. are just a few ideas. Of course there are several other options and these are only stray thoughts on the subject, but perhaps worth looking at a little closer.

I would suggest reading Paul’s writing on game cams, http://www.sasquatchonline.com/content/view/16/29/> integrating some of the information you may have gathered from this, combine some personal reasoning and go get some photos…if you can.
