Over 260 people attended this year’s annual “Night of the Paranormal” event at The Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach this year. The 7th annual October expo of the weird, unusual and eerie came together well.
Due to the tragic loss of his wife, Dot Diehl-Carlson, “Master of the Weird,” Charlie Carlson was unable to fill his usual role of Master of Ceremonies this year. But, at the last minute Charlie, the main producer of the popular event, was able to jump back into the production and helped make this years event one of the best in both attendance and things to see and do. Pangea’s, Scott Marlowe, was asked to stand in as MC and did a fine job keeping things moving along on stage. Marlowe tantalized the audience with a presentation on Weird Creatures of Florida in addition to his duties as the stage moderator. The presentation turned out to be one of the highlights of the evening. The lobby was filled with an array of unusual exhibits and personalities. Charlie, with the help of side-kick actor, Owen Sliter, brought in his circus sideshow exhibits. Captain Black Jack, a tarot card reading pirate, had people standing in line for a reading. The main event of the evening was a viewing of the movie “Henry Blackhart is Dead” on the theater's big screen followed by a “debate” featuring Owen Sliter, as America’s favorite ghost-hunting skeptic, and Julie Powell, reprising her role as the medium “Sophie Lorenzo” in the Blackhart movie. The debate was moderated by Marlowe dressed to the nines as a Death Eater from the popular Harry Potter books. The lively, but good spirited discussion had quite a bit of give and take on stage
Also featured was "Fright Night", a laser light show with Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” providing the musical background. ath the end |

Pangea cryptozoologist, Scott Marlowe, entertained a sell-out audience with tales of Florida's Big Hairy Guy at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, Florida in September.
The "Interview with the Swamp Ape" was part of MOAS' "On Board the Hiawatha" popular lecture series held aboard the museum reconstructed rail car from the early-20th century. In addition to the "Great White Swamp Ape Hunter," "Stinky" made a personal appearance! The part of the Swamp Ape was played by Pangea Player, Robert Reese, who gave a great performance as Florida's legendary swamp monster. ath the end |

Pangea educator, Robert Reese, volunteer, Joe Nobles, and our own, Scott Marlowe, treked down to the Florida Keys to the Dolphin Research Center in August to study the work being done there and review the new Marine Mammal curriculum being offered by Florida Keys Community College.
The trio met the staff at DRC and students enrolled in their program and made some dolphin friends along the way. "We were amazed at the learning abilities of the dolphins," said Reese. "These animals are really somthing!" In addition to responding to a variey of hand signs resembling ASL, the dolphins demonstrated an ability to recognize and work with symbolic language. We did a radio show on Pangea's World of Weird, Hosted by Scott Marlowe, from the Marathon campus of Florida Keys Community College with Professor Roland Fisch, Dr. Patrick Rice and Vice Provost Gary Martin. To listen to an archive PodCast of the show, click on the link below and go to the show archive for August from the menu on our WOW homepage. World of Weird ath the end |
